Aeroponics is a revolutionary development in the world of hydroponics. These systems use no growing medium and offer the highest performance possible. But you also need to keep in mind that these systems can be touchy and difficult to deal with at time.
Roots are suspended in a dark chamber where they are sprayed with a fine mist of oxygen rich nutrient solution at regular intervals. This interval process of spraying then just letting the roots hang in the air allows the plants to get the maximum amount of oxygen available which in turn allows the plant to intake more nutrients and grow faster than any other system. The humidity in this chamber remains close to 100% which allows the roots to hang in the chamber without drying up. Most often the plants are placed in net pots that contain a small amount of growing medium.
Because these systems don't technically use any growing medium (besides the small amount in the net pot used for stabilization) they take a lot of care and attention to detail. If a pump fails, the roots will soon be exposed to air for too long and will start to dry up and the plant will eventually die. If you use spray heads/sprinkler heads that are prone to clogging, you will most likely experience some difficulty as the roots become longer and more dense. A simple clog in a sprinkler head could do damage depending on your system. This is a reason to purchase quality components to ensure the lowest possible chance of a clogged system.
I have seen this system in use and it does indeed produce amazingly fast growth. You will not have to veg your plants for nearly as long before starting the flowering phase. This is a huge benefit and can save the grower weeks of time that was spend vegging plants using other, less effective systems.
